Pittsburg State women’s basketball selected 8th, PSU men’s basketball chosen to finish 10th in media and coaches polls

We’re at the midway point of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association’s college football season, which means we’re about a month away from the tip-off of the conference’s college basketball season.

On Tuesday, the M I Double A held its college basketball media in Kansas City. Preseason polls were also released yesterday, and the Lady Gorillas were picked to finish 8th in the coaches and media poll.

The men’s team was selected to finish 10th in both polls. New Pittsburg State head basketball coach Jeff Boschee is familiar with the conference, having spent 12 seasons with rival Missouri Southern before coming to southeast Kansas this offseason. Boschee spoke Tuesday about the switch.

“That’s probably the biggest thing that stood out to me when you get over there. You know, the crazy thing is, I feel like, in this league, the smaller communities. The Maryville’s, the Hayes’, the support is just unwavering, they really embrace their college, and I think it’s no different at Pitt State.”

The Pittsburg State women’s basketball play their first game on October 30, taking on the Kansas City Roos. While PSU’s men’s team takes on the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence on Thursday, November 3
