Missouri Governor Mike Parson acknowledged Thursday that his state’s economy is facing some unique challenges. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

It’s not news that the US economy is facing some headwinds, higher interest rates, or fuel and food prices.
On the other side of the coin, unemployment in Missouri is at a historic low of 2.5%, according to Missouri Governor Mike Parson, who made three stops in southwest Missouri on Thursday. The first was Crowder College’s Advanced Training and Technology Center.
Parson says that Missouri’s economy continues to weather the storm better than other states.
“We’ll I don’t think there’s any question, we’ve been very fortunate in this state, you know, when you look at the economy of our state and how we’ve been able to weather the storm over the last several years. We’ve really taken a balanced approach to keeping our businesses going, keeping our people in the workforce, and that’s really starting to pay off for us right now.”
The state’s unemployment rate is currently at its lowest in 50 years; Parson also noted there are 127,000 job openings in Missouri. He lauded Crowder’s workforce development programs, including advanced manufacturing, welding, and computer network support. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
