Next month, a southwest Missouri non-profit focusing on improving residents’ lives will hold a summit. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

One Joplin was founded in 2015 in the aftermath of the 2011 tornado that destroyed about ⅓ of the city. Next month’s summit will help One Joplin identify future goals, opportunities, and initiatives.
The organization has teams that include Poverty, with a priority on homelessness and housing; Human Services concentrated on access to care; Health with a focus on walking initiatives, workplace wellness, and healthy kids; and Literacy, spotlighting parent engagement from early childhood to third grade.
Past or present One Joplin volunteers and interested community members are welcome and encouraged to attend. The one-day, free event will take place at Hope Community Church in Joplin on Thursday, October 6, from 8:30 am until noon. Registration is required and can be completed at OneJoplin.com.
