If you like to drive your golf cart on the streets of Neosho, as of last night, you can now do so legally. For 90-days starting in May of this year, the Neosho city council removed the term golf cart from the city ordinance that classified them as motor vehicles.
They did so as a test to determine if eliminating golf carts from the regulation and allowing residents to drive them on city streets would be an issue. Neosho Police Chief Jason Baird spoke at the council meeting last night.
“The police department does not have any incidents involving golf carts, so it’s our recommendation that we make that a permanent change.”
In addition to removing golf carts from the ordinance, the council added language to define a golf cart more narrowly. It reads a motor vehicle that is designed and manufactured for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes, and that is not capable of exceeding speeds of 20) miles per hour.”
