If you love old cars and are near southeast Kansas, mark September 7 on your calendar. It’s the start of an event celebrating Ford’s Model T. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Antique Model T’s will be seen throughout Southeast Kansas during the week of September 7-11. The 39th Annual Hillbilly Tour will be based in Pittsburg, with participants exploring scenic roads, including Route 66, the rich history of coal and lead mining.
Highlights for Wednesday, September 7, are the PSU Veterans Memorial, the Champions Plaza Gorilla Sculpture at Carnie Smith Stadium, and the Crawford County Historical Museum. The next day, the Model T’s will travel to the Corona Train Depot, Big Brutus, Baxter Springs Heritage Museum, the old Marsh Arch Rainbow Bridge on Route 66, and Route 66 through Downtown Galena.
The Hillbilly Tour is hosted by the Heart of the Ozarks Chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America. To learn more about the tour and the club, visit their Facebook page at Model T Ford Club – Heart of the Ozarks Chapter.
