The Springfield-Greene County health department will hold an event Friday to mark World Breastfeeding day. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Springfield-Greene County Health’s Women, Infants, and Children Program as, known as WIC, and the Greater Ozarks Regional Breastfeeding Coalition will Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week event tomorrow.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for most infants.
It provides a host of benefits to both infant and breastfeeding parent, including lowering the risk of diseases like asthma, SIDS, and ear infections for baby and ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and type 2 diabetes for parent. Anyone interested in attending can register for no cost. The first 50 who do register and attend will receive a swag bag.
The event will be from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Phelps Grove Park, 950 E. Bennett in Springfield, and will celebrate breastfeeding mothers in our community and across the country. For more information, visit health.springfieldmo.gov. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro.
