Burlison emerges from crowded Republican field in Missouri’s 7th, Democrat Radaker-Sheafer looks to make history in November

Missouri’s 7th District will have a new Congressperson this November. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

(D) Kristen Radaker-Sheafe

Billy Long’s time as southwest Missouri Congressman is winding down as Missouri State Senator Republican Eric Burlison emerged from the crowded field of seven other candidates, earning just over 38% of the vote on Tuesday. Burlison outpaced second-place finisher Jay Wasson, by 16 percentage points. In contrast, the 7th District could make history this November if residents elect their first women to represent southwest Missouri in Congress. Joplin business owner Kristen Radaker-Sheafer easily defeated two primary challengers who were former Republicans running as Democrats. Radaker-Sheafer earned just over 63% of the vote. Burlison and Radaker-Sheafer will take on Liberation Kevin Craig, who ran unopposed. The national general election is on Tuesday, November 8. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro.
