Due to the sharp rise in diesel gas prices, council members in Webb City approved an increase in the cost of trash pick-up on Monday. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

A clause in the city’s contract with GFL Environmental whom Webb City contracts their trash services, includes an additional 1.5% fuel surcharge above the baseline charge of $3.50 per gallon.
The additional fee, which GFL has self-capped at just 5% or 47 cents, would remain in effect until the daily cost for a gallon of diesel falls below $5.00 for 30 consecutive days.
Also, as part of a nationwide vigil with locations in San Diego and Sacramento, California, community members in Webb City will gather tomorrow evening in the parking lot of Webb City city hall to remember 14-year Rezwan Kohistani. His body was found on May 5 under the bleachers of the Webb City high school baseball field.
Over $41,000 has been raised through a Go Fund Me page to assist the Kohistani family who have relocated to Texas since the death of their son. The vigil is slated to start at 8:30 tomorrow night.
