An 8th Dollar General location will be constructed in Joplin, following approval by the city council Monday, but not without pushback from residents. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

The new location will be constructed in a residential area on the southwest corner of East Zora Street and North St. Louis Avenue in Joplin, directly north of Frisco Greenway trail.
According to a Google Maps photo from April 2013, the last structure at this corner was a small retail warehouse. Several nearby residents, including Dave Schepper, shared their concerns about the new Dollar General location on Monday night.
“Because I appreciate your comments about the integrity of a building, I’m asking you all to consider the integrity of a neighborhood. And not just my Northbrook neighborhood but the neighborhood that is just to the west of us and the older neighborhood of Royals Heights.”
Ultimately the city council approved the plan by a six to two vote, with council members citing that the developer met the city’s requirements and the owner’s right to sell their property.
