With the US still reeling from the most recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, schools throughout southwest Missouri on Wednesday continued their march toward summer break.
Like every school day for the past year, dozens of parents lined up outside Webster Primary school in Webb City, (Missouri), waiting for the seven and eight-year-olds to be dismissed yesterday afternoon.
Parents like Rachel, who declined to give her last name, said that she would explain the shooting in Texas to her young daughter, delicately.
“I think so. Maybe not in graphic detail. But just explaining to her that there are, there is evil in the world and just to not trust everybody she meets.”
Rachel went on to say that she considered Webster to be a safe school, noting that there were limited entrances. Also, the school’s staff kept the doors locked and required IDs or school-provided signs to pick up children.
