The investigation into the death of a 16-year Afghan refugee is continuing in Webb City. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

After weeks of social media speculation, on Saturday, the Webb City police department issued a statement on the possible suicide of 14-year-old Rezwan Kohistani.
A student found him on the morning of May 5 near the baseball field at Webb City high school. Webb City Chief of Police Don Melton said in the statement quote, “Although there were no obvious signs of foul play at the crime scene or with the initial results from the autopsy, we decided not to publicize any information until we received the official copy of the completed autopsy.” unquote.
Melton told me Saturday that the police department typically doesn’t issue press releases or provide information to the public in cases of suicide. The department is awaiting the results of a toxicology report which takes between six and eight weeks to complete before the department issues its final report.
