Tonight, the Joplin city council will convene for its bi-weekly meeting. Among agenda items, city staff will provide an update regarding street light replacement. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

According to the presentation available at the city’s website, Joplinmo.org city staff have met regularly with officials from Liberty Utility to work on repairing and installing light streetlamps throughout the city. Installation of new lights is based on factors including crime statistics, existing lighting in the area, and the difficulty of installing new lights.
At tonight’s meeting, staff will focus on Zone 25, including Columbia elementary school. The city plans to add eight new LED streetlights and change 21 traditional streetlights to LED. The streetlight working group is now turning their attention to East 15 Street from Main Street to Rangeline.
And Duquesne Road in the area of Missouri Southern. The information portion of the Joplin city council meeting gets underway tonight at 5:15. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
