Municipal and city elections are less than a month away in Missouri, including races for Joplin city council. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Dr. Mark Farnham

Dr. Mark Farnham is among a handful of new candidates running for city council in Joplin, including Kate Spencer, Brian Evans, and Jon Buck. Farnham, running in Zone 4, which covers the southern portion of the city, including the city south of Interstate 44. He’s taking on incumbent council women Diane Reid Adams for a four-year term.

If elected, Farnham says that he would like to update Joplin’s website. “So one of my goals is to improve the Joplin city website so that anyone can look there and can immediately see where their dollars are going.”

Farnham says he’s spoken to several Joplin voters who want more transparency from their city government and have difficulty determining where their tax dollars are being spent. Absentee voting opened last month; in-person voting takes place on April 5. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro.
