The Langston Hughes Cultural Society and Post Art Library mark Hughes’s birthday

On February 1, 1901, Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri. He would live the early months of his life in southwest Missouri before his parents divorced, and he moved around various small Midwestern towns, including Lawrence, Kansas.

The Langston Hughes Cultural Society and Post Art Library are pleased to present “Still Here: A Collection of Artifacts from the Family of Langston Hughes” at Joplin Public Library Saturday, March 6, 2021, from 10:30 am until 12 pm.

This event welcomes a selection of artifacts from the Langston Hughes Family Museum and a presentation from Executive Director and Curator Marjol Rush-Collet.

The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session with Ms. Rush-Collet.

Reservations are not required to attend the event, which is open to the public. Seating is limited to 100 people.

The event was initially scheduled for February but was rescheduled due to a winter storm.
