Rain, ice, snow, and a chance of tornadoes, according to NWS Springfield

Highway 171 in SW Missouri

Enjoy today’s mainly sunny conditions throughout the Four States, as highs will reach in the lower ‘70s. It will also be another windy day, with southerly winds as high as 33 miles per hour. Lead Forecaster with the National Weather Service Office in Springfield, Missouri Steve Lindenburg says that we’ll likely experience thunderstorms tonight, then snow and ice Wednesday and Thursday with a chance of tornadoes. “Probably not in your area, but I can’t rule it out completely over South Central Missouri toward Tuesday morning. It looks like mainly a wind and hail event, but I’m not going to rule out an isolated tornado if we can get some surface-based storms developing.”

Lindenburg, with the National Weather Service, says that it’s difficult to determine just how much rain, snow, or ice accumulation the area will receive. We are a little more than two weeks from Severe Weather Preparedness Week and the Missouri statewide tornado drill on Tuesday, March 6.
