Southwest Missouri Congressman Billy Long looked to make some waves in the Republican race for Senate on Tuesday. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Nine candidates are vying for Missouri’s Republican Senate nomination in a very competitive field, including Attorney General Eric Schmit, former Governor Eric Greitens, and President of Missouri Senate, Dave Schatz. On Saturday, Missouri’s Jr. Senator Josh Hawley Tuesday threw his support behind Congresswomen Vicky Haltzer, which caught Long off guard. In response yesterday Long appeared on KCMO’s Pete Mundo show,“I said, well I’m like everybody else Josh, I said, I’d love to have your endorsement because I can win this and with your support and President Trump’s support, it’s going to make the path a lot easier. I’m sitting three feet from him, looking at him in the eye, and I said, yanno, it looks to me like you’re getting pretty close to endorsing Hartzler.”
As of the end of last year, Hartzler had the most cash on hand of all the candidates with nearly 1.8 million dollars. The primary will take place on Tuesday, August 2. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
