Joplin city officials are hoping a grant will be approved by the Economic Development Administration that will aid in the construction of a 3-million dollar sewer project. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

At their meeting Tuesday night, Joplin City Council members watched a presentation by the Finance Director Leslie Haase about whether they should approve a grant application for the Bakers Branch East Sewer Extension Project in the eastern part of the Joplin near highway 249. Haase spoke about some of the qualifications that the project has to fit. “So the project already has to be designed with environmental assessments, so that already narrowed the list down considerably. We have to be the owner of the project. That narrowed it down even further. We have to have the matching funds. Narrowed it down some more.”
The city council voted unanimously 8 to 0 in favor of applying for the grant. One council member was absent. If the EDA approves the grant request, 2 million dollars is the highest amount that the city can be awarded. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
