The number of COVID-19 patients at one Joplin hospital continues to climb. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
At Freeman Health System’s final media briefing for 2021, held on Wednesday, December 15, President and CEO Paula Baker doctors were caring for a total of 23 patients at their Joplin and Neosho facilities. As of yesterday, that figure had climbed to 34. Included in that number are seven patients in the COVID ICU, twenty in the medical COVID unit, and two on ventilators. The rise in patients at Freeman is also being reported by the Joplin health department who on their COVID-19 tracking website at AllThingsMissouri.org reported an over 107% rise in cases over the past 14-days.
A reminder that the Missouri Department of Health is holding free in-person COVID testing today at Joseph Newman Innovation Center, located at 407 Pennsylvania Ave located across the street from the Joplin Health Department. There is no pre-registration or government ID required. The testing site is open from 10 am until 6 tonight. Visit health.mo.gov/communtiytest for more information.
