The Joplin Health Department is trying a new approach to try and reach individuals who continue to be hesitant to get the COVID-19 vaccine. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Joplin continues to lead Missouri in the percentage of residents receiving their 1st and 2nd doses of a COVID vaccine but that isn’t good enough for the city’s health department. With financial support from the Missouri Department of Health, the Joplin Health Department is providing up to $100 in Visa gift cards to those who receive both doses of a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.
The first $50 gift card will be provided after the first dose, the second after the second shot. Although, officials say gift card supplies are limited and there is no guarantee that individuals will receive a second gift card after their second dose. Also, those who have already started or finished their vaccination series are not eligible for the incentive program. And, individuals who want booster shots are not eligible. The next free walk-in clinic at the Joplin Health Department is Tuesday, November 16 from 9 to 11 am.
