Up First In The Four States for Wednesday 11/03/2021

Good Wednesday Morning, thanks for joining me for Up First in the Four States, from KRPS. I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro. Let’s first take a look at local weather,

Mostly to partly cloudy skies today and tonight throughout the Four States, still a slim chance of showers in the area. Highs today in the upper ‘40s, lows tonight around freezing. Mostly sunny skies return tomorrow and extend into the weekend. Highs tomorrow in the lower ‘50s, warming into the upper ‘50s Friday and lower ‘60s on Saturday.

An incumbent on the Topeka City Council has fought off a challenge from a one-time member of the white nationalist Proud Boys.

Joplin residents on Tuesday approved Proposition Action by just 94 votes.

Former Kansas Representative Dennis Moore has died……He would have been 76 on Nov. 8th.

Encouraging news regarding COVID-19 in Southwest Missouri from Joplin Health Director Ryan Talken at Monday night’s city council meeting.

The Joplin city council at their meeting Monday night approved a special use permit for a short-term rental, at the same time city officials are working on a new ordinance for such properties.

Three newcomers were elected to the Wichita school board beating incumbents in a race that focused on national issues.

A program Saturday in Springfield will focus on death and burial rituals in the Ozarks before there were professional death care services.

Now a quick look at local sports,

Pittsburg State men’s basketball in preseason action this tomorrow, in Manhattan taking on the Kansas State WildCats. Game time for men tomorrow at 7 pm. The Lady Gorillas will be on the road at K-State, to play an exhibition game against the Wild Cats Friday night, game time for women at 6:30.

Pittsburg State football will seek to make it four wins in a row this Saturday when they face Washburn. Missouri Southern football will look to bounce back from a loss last weekend. Saturday the Lions hosts Northwest Missouri.

Missouri Southern’s women’s basketball will be in Wichita tomorrow night to take on the Shockers. It will be the Lions first game of the pre-season. Game time tomorrow night at 6 pm.
