Next Tuesday Joplin residents will decide whether to approve a new Internet Use Tax. In three weeks, the filing period opens for candidates to run in the April 2022 elections. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

If you’re interested in running for a seat on the Joplin City Council, circle Tuesday, November 16th. That’s the day that interested parties can pick up their nominating petitions for the city clerk. To be eligible, citizens are required to be a qualified voter and have been a Joplin resident for at least four years immediately prior to the election. They will also be required to show their voter identification card to the City Clerk when applying for the election. Both general and those running in Zones must obtain 150 certified signatures from qualified voters throughout the city.
If you’re running for a Zone seat, 75 of those signatures must be in the zone you are running in. Five seats will be available, three general seats and 1 seat apiece in Zone 1 and 4. Election day is Tuesday, April 5. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
