Missouri Southern State University in Joplin announced their fall 2021 enrollment Thursday. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
Student enrollment at Missouri Southern proceeded to slide this fall, continuing a decline in enrollment at the university over the past five years. MSSU announced in a press release Thursday a fall enrollment of 4,358 students. When compared to fall 2020 enrollment data it’s a loss of 687 students. Year over year, it’s an over 15% decline in student enrollment. Thursday’s data is a part of a five-year trend of slumping enrollment at MSSU.
In comparison, according to research from the National Student Research Center, college enrollment at four-year State universities nationwide was down just .6%. Missouri Southern has experienced a steeper decline in student enrollment. At its most recent height, in 2016 the MSSU reported over 6,200 students enrolled for the fall semester. An over 30% decline when compared to this year’s numbers. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
