Officials with Joplin’s Freeman Health System were optimistic about the slowing number of COVID-19 patients they are seeing. The health system held its weekly COVID-19 update Wednesday. Freeman President and CEO Paula Baker said that the hospital had 19 in-patients with COVID-19, two on ventilators between their Joplin and Neosho facilities.

Pediatrician Dr. Beth Garrett, also speaking at the press conference, continued to encourage parents to get kids 12 and up vaccinated against COVID. “I’m very excited that we’re getting closer to vaccines for kids when it comes to COVID vaccination. For quite a while we’ve had COVID vaccination for ages 12 and up and I still want to encourage families to get their children vaccinated at ages 12 and up. This is how we keep kids in their activities.” Vaccines continue to be free and widely available. To find a vaccine clinic in your area visit
