According to Joplin’s Health Director, the city is on the right track in lowering the number of severe illnesses and hospitalizations due to COVID-19. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Speaking at the Joplin city council meeting Monday night, Health Director Ryan Talken said that the city and its residents were headed in the right direction when it came to newly reported cases of COVID-19. “Our cases are trending down. With a 21% decrease week over the week we’re averaging about 11 cases per day, last time I reported 15 cases per day. Our hospitalizations are also trending downward”.

The city leads the state in the number of residents who have initiated a vaccine at over 61%, and have completed their inoculations with over 55%.
