Later this week, Freeman Health System in Joplin will host a Caregiver Support Group with a focus on Gardening. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
Gardening has been proven to have a calming effect on individuals and can be a way to reduce stress. There is pleasure in having flowering plants or vegetables to nurture, which can also provide healthy, organic produce. Gardening also combines the physical activity of planting and watering with time outdoors to absorb vitamin D.
Participants will learn the tools and techniques needed to prepare their gardens for fall and plan ahead for a spring garden. The Freeman Health System Caregiver Support Group will host guest speakers from the Joplin GreenHouse and Coffee Shop this Thursday, September 16. The support group will be facilitated by Freeman Geriatric Center social worker Jennifer Berry and will meet starting at 10:30 am at Freeman East conference rooms. Physical distancing and mask wearing will be practiced. The event is free and open to the public. Contact Kathy Mason to RSVP, call 417-347-8463. For 89 9 KRPS, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
