Jasper County voters approved an increase in the 911 Emergency Services 911 Board tax, which will increase from 1/10 of 1% to ¼ of 1%. The measure passed overwhelmingly with over 72% of the vote. The tax increase will allow JASCO to collect a tax of $2.50 for every $1,000 worth of retail purchases in Jasper County, up from a $1.00 The 911 agency dispatches for 26 police, medical and fire departments throughout Jasper County. Also on Tuesday, Joplin voters approved an extension of ¼ cent sales tax to pay for the 10-year parks and stormwater development plan created by city officials and consultants last year. The measure was first passed in 2001 and has now been extended twice. Joplin city officials have projected the sales tax extension will raise about 41 million dollars over the next ten years.
