To mark Missouri’s bi-cennteial next month, Pro Musica Joplin will present a classical and chamber music concert. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Pro Musica will present the American Wild Ensemble in a free, outdoor concert of contemporary classical chamber music reflecting on the Missouri Bicentennial. This “Missouri Music at 200” program will feature new music and poetry by composers and writers connected to the state. The concert will take place on Thursday, August 5, at 7pm, outdoors at the Wildcat Glades Park in Joplin. To mark the August 10, 2021, Missouri Bicentennial, American Wild Ensemble commissioned and assembled a set of six composers and three poets to reflect on the state’s history and honor its broad cultural traditions as part of a statewide tour of outdoor performances in Joplin, St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia, and Gray Summit. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own chairs or picnic blankets to enjoy the performance at the picnic pavilion overlooking Shoal Creek. Advanced reservations are encouraged for the free concert, but not required. For more information visit promusicajoplin.org.
