With the number of new Covid cases increasing in Southwest Missouri, Freeman Health System has reopened its Covid-19 ward. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
The city of Joplin has experienced an over 33% increase in the number of Covid 19 cases in the past two weeks according to, AllThingsMissouri.org. The rise in the number of new Covid patients has led to Freeman Hospital in Joplin to reopen a dedicated unit that only handles patients with the disease.
Speaking at a Wednesday press conference, the head of Freeman’s Covid unit, Dr. Robert McNab says there is a major difference between last year’s pandemic patients and this year’s. “What I’m seeing in our wards is that about 69% of our current Covid in-patients are below the age of 60. Which I think is pretty profoundly different from what we saw in the beginning of the pandemic. The other thing that I would note is that I’m unaware of a single patient that is admitted with Covid right now that is fully vaccinated.” Information about how to receive a free Covid-19 is on Freeman’s homepage at Freemanhealth.com, or call 417-347-6444.
