On Monday, there were many Memorial Day remembrances throughout the Four States. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

The mood was solemn Monday morning as members representing American Legion Post 13 in Joplin, along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans gathered at Webb Cities, Mount Hope Cemetery to lay to rest the remains of Jimmy Byrant, Thomas Brunson, and Jimmy Smart. Vice-Commander of the American Legion Post 13, Patrick Tuttle spoke at the ceremony. He says very little is known about the three men honored this year. “We had nobody come forward this time. It’s been out of the media so hopefully, somebody will. The one gentlemen, Jimmy Stewart, he did have some family that notified the cemetery and they plan to do something, but they weren’t available for today. So, it’s really sad.” In 2019, Two year ago, Post 13 honored two service members who served in World War II, but due to the pandemic, the ceremony was canceled last year. The American Legion Post in Joplin meets every 2nd Thursday of the month, at 5:30 pm, at the Old Terminal at the Joplin Airport.
