SW Missouri Veterans remember their fallen brothers at a ceremony in Webb City

For the 2nd time in 3 years, members of the American Legion Post 13 in Joplin, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans gathered at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City on Monday to honor and remember three of their own. Very little is known about Jimmy Bryant, Thomas Brunson, and Jimmy Smart.

Vice-Commander of the American Legion Post 13, Patrick Tuttle hopes that friends and family members of the men come forward so the Legion can learn more about them. “The difference here is, that there, put in a vault, for holding. So if family members all of a sudden appear, it’s a lot easier for the mortuary, the cemetery, to pass them on to the family. It’s not really exhuming them like you would have before.” Jimmy Bryant and Thomas Brunson served in the US Army, while Jimmy Smart served in both the Army and Navy in the 1960s. In 2019, the Legion honored 2 Veterans who served in World War 2. The event was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
