Looking back 1-year later, when Joplin ranked 1st in the country for new Covid-19 cases

Nearly 1 year ago, Joplin was number 1 Covid 19 case growth rate according to the Dartmouth Atlas Covid mapping project. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

For several days in June of 2020, the Joplin area ranked in the top 25 for new Covid case growth rate according to the project-based at Dartmouth University. On June 1 of last year, the city ranked 218th, a week later Joplin was 50th. On June 15th, the area was ranked first in the country with a 10.4% Covid 19 case growth rate per week. It would hold the number 1 spot for 9 straight days. On Wednesday this week, at the Joplin Health Department, located at 321 East 4th Street the staff will be providing 1st and 2nd doses of Covid 19 Moderna vaccine, from 9 am until 11:30 and 1:30 pm until 4.

The health department staff will also be at the Joplin Public Library this Saturday from 11 am until 3 pm providing Covid shots. Anyone over the age of 12, regardless of your city or state residency can receive the shots. Please bring a photo ID and your vaccination card if you’re seeking to receive your 2nd Moderna shot. No appointment is required.
