The Joplin City Council met for over three hours on Monday night to discuss a possible Memorial Hall renovation. But there are still questions about the viability of the project. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
On Monday night, Co-Chairs of the financial committee, Tom Franz and Russ Alcore, overseeing a possible Memorial Hall renovation; presented their findings. The hall last saw significant improvements in the late 1970s and needs major renovation if it will compete with Connect 2 Culture Cornell Complex, which is being constructed across the street. At the meeting, Councilmember Phil Stinnet highlighted that the results of the project, which would cost the city 100’s of 1000’s of dollars, is still undetermined. “But I think Tom makes a good point, and Russ made it earlier; this is all based on that we can market it effectively and that we can put the people in there. But from the standpoint of my position as a councilmember, it gives me another feeling of comfort.” Tonight at 6, the City Council will hold another information meeting at Missouri’s Southern North End Zone Facility to address Operation LaunchPad.
