A chance of rain this weekend throughout Southwest Missouri shouldn’t slow your plans to enjoy many of the events taking place. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

If you need to get the kiddos out of the house tomorrow morning, stop by the Joplin History and Mineral Museum from 10 am until noon. Celebrate Joplin by painting a delicious cookie shaped like an iris and other activities. This event is free and open to the public.The Joplin History & Mineral Museum is located at 504 S Schifferdecker Ave in Joplin.
After the museum, head over to the Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center, where the Missouri Department of Conservationists is hosting a Nature Escape Room from 10:30 am until 2:30 pm. The event is recommended to kids five years and older, and includes puzzles and games. Groups will have 30 minutes to solve clues to learn about amazing Missouri creatures and their unique characteristics. It’s taking place at the Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center, at 201 W. Riviera Drive in Joplin.
And taking place Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm at the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, Epigraphs and Engravings. The program will investigate the symbols and engravings found on headstones in the Carver family cemetery. The GWC is open 7-days a week from 9 am until 5 pm.
