Tonight, the Joplin city council will hold a work session focused on six ways the city could improve its appearance. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Conversations among Joplin city staff and city council members will continue tonight on the 2021 Action Plan. Topics will include improving the community’s appearance, addressing declining neighborhoods, increasing Joplin’s economic development, addressing homelessness, establishing a resilient revenue source while reducing crime and increasing safety.
More specifically, whether the city should reestablish programs such as adopting a street and individual and business of the month. Also, beautification measures include updating landscaping codes for builders, updating city signs, and improving code enforcement. Another strategy that will be considered is assisting low-income homeowners with the costly repairs to their homes. And discussing the city’s vacant building problem.
