A former Southwest Missouri Police Chief is taking on a new role

A former Southwest Missouri police chief is taking on a new role. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Retired Joplin Chief of Police Mathew Stewart was named the new Executive Director of the Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri on Thursday. Stewart will replace Vicki Dudley, who has served in that role since July of 2014. Stewart was most recently a Victim Advocate for the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office.

He has more than 20 years of experience in local government and law enforcement. He has also served on several local and state committees that focus on sexual and physical child abuse programs. Stewart, a resident of Seneca, Missouri, and a graduate of Missouri Southern’s criminal justice administration program. He also earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Southeast Missouri State University. Stewart will start in his new position on Monday, May 3.
