For weeks now, new cases of Covid 19 have continued to drop, but that appears to be over as Joplin Health is experiencing an average of four new days per day. This as Joplin continues to lead Missouri by percentage in the number of people receiving vaccines for Covid with 32.6% of the population. Joplin Health Director Ryan Talken speaking at a city council meeting on Monday, attributes the high rate of vaccination in the city to many factors. “One, we have a great medical community here. There’s quite a few community vaccinators out there now. We also have a lot of medical staff here within Joplin.”

Statewide, over 1.7 million Missouri residents have received at least Covid 19 vaccine dose, while nearly 1.1 million residents have completed their vaccination. A mass vaccination event will take place at Missouri State University in Springfield all day, this Thursday and Friday.
