Next week ProMusica Joplin will host its first in-person, outdoor concert in over a year. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Members and followers of the chamber, classical, and jazz non-profit will celebrate the start of the organization’s 40th-year of performances next Thursday when they host the Austin, Texas-based Invoke Quartet. The group includes violin, viola, and cello to banjo, mandolin, and vocal elements. According to Executive Producer of ProMusica Joplin, Jay Gilman, this is the first of three performances for the shortened 2021 season. “We are very excited about implementing a series of outdoor performances after having been through a year in which we did a number of exciting digital initiatives as well as our Overtures of Hope program.”
The Boston Brass will follow Invoke on May 27. And the Brubeck Brothers Quartet will visit Joplin on June 17 to cap off the series. There is no cost to attend, but reservations are required to ensure social distancing. Masks will be required.
