
Over the past year, local elected officials have shouldered more decision-making because of pandemic. School board members in Joplin have also been put under the spotlight when they voted in favor of alternating days at Joplin high school. On Tuesday, April 6, the city’s voters will have the opportunity to elect two new members to the Joplin school board. Candidate Rylee Hartwell says he has the educational and professional background to make an impact if elected. “I bring a different perspective. In terms of age. In terms of time. I’m committed to Joplin, first and foremost. That’s my top priority and always has been. Joplin as a community.” Hartwell, a Joplin high school and Missouri Southern graduate. Currently, he’s the Director of Football Operations at Southern. John Hird and Josh Bard are also running for a seat on the school board.
