Freeman hospital in Joplin will be holding an emergency blood drive later today. K R P S’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
The on-going pandemic has already reduced the area’s blood supply. This week, a double-shot of winter storms canceled many blood drives throughout the area, also causing many CBCO donor centers to close. Today, the emergency blood drive will take place at the Freeman Business Center in Conference Room 1 from 9 AM until 3 this afternoon. One person giving a pint of blood can save as many as three lives. Community Blood Center of the Ozarks urgently needs to replenish and maintain its supply of all blood types, but there is a critical appeal for type O negative donors. CBCO is the sole provider of blood and plasma products to Freeman and more than 35 other hospitals throughout Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling 417.227.5006 or visit CBCO.org for more information.
