It’s going to be another busy season at the Bicknell Family Center For The Arts! The 2019-2020 includes three Broadway shows coming to Southeast Kansas, in addition to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and the 5th-anniversary of the center this December. Director of the Bicknell Center, Joe Firman dropped by KRPS recently to talk about the upcoming season of performances. (Click this link for a complete schedule)
The first performance to kick-off the 2019-2020 season at the Bicknell is The Modern American Dance Company or MADCO who are scheduled to perform on Saturday September 7 at 7:30 PM. The dance company from St. Louis is now in their 43nd year of existence. Along with their first performance at the Bicknell MADCO is also offering a 3-day residency and master class taking place September 5-7. MADCO is one of two major dance companies visiting Southeast Kansas this season. The Russian Nutcracker will be returning to the Bicknell in November marking the 4th consecutive year they will do so.
If dance isn’t your thing but you love watching and hearing bands perform then you won’t want to miss the Wednesday, October 9 performance of The U.S. Air Force Falconaires. The event is open to the public, but a ticket is a still required to be admitted to the Bicknell. The event starts at 7:30 PM. The band tours nationwide and their performance is apart of a swing through Kansas with performances in Fort Hayes, Lawrence, Wichita, McPherson and Great Bend. The group is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado and performs America’s only indigenous musical genre, jazz!
Broadway shows have been a major hit at the Bicknell since the center opened in 2014. The three shows that are coming to Southeast Kansas this season offer something for everyone. From Bandstand in November, to Finding Neverland in January 2020 and An American In Paris in March the Best of Broadway Series seeks to offer big city performances without having to drive to Kansas City. It’s common for the Best of the Broadway performance to sellout so purchase your tickets early.
