‘Jazz at 100’, now heard Monday nights at 7 on KRPS is one of the stations eight-new programs. JA100 is apart of a refreshing of KPRS’s weeknight jazz lineup, which now includes ‘Sound Ideas with Clay Ryder’ Tuesday, ‘Jazz Inspired with Judy Carmichael’ Wednesday and ‘Jazz ODC‘ on Thursdays. All four of the new jazz programs can be heard at 7 pm.
Jazz at 100 both celebrates and tells the history of jazz starting with the first known recording in 1917. Each hour of the program represents 1-year of jazz history. Previously, ‘Jazz at 100’ host and creator Russell Perry worked as an architect, a career which requires both long term planning and complex problem solving. Now retired, Perry found that his background was good experience prior to researching, writing and hosting a 100-hour history of jazz which took over a decade of research and over two-years to complete.
