The 3rd quarter issue of the 2018 Pittsburg Metropolitan Report came out last month and the latest data shows that residents of Pittsburg, Kansas are leaving both the city and the area to move to more metropolitan areas, mirroring a trend seen throughout the country. The reports author Dr. Micheal Davidsson says that issues affecting new housing remain at the forefront of both attracting residents and keeping them in Southeast Kansas, regardless of their level of income. While the population of Pittsburg swells during the day because of Pittsburg State and jobs within the city limits, at least half of those people live in other areas and take the income they earn back to neighboring counties or across a state border, to either Missouri or Oklahoma.
