Last weekend the Missouri Southern Football team was on the road in Topeka, Kansas to take on the Washburn University Ichabods. It was close early, 14 to 7 Washburn in the first quarter, but the Ichabods turned on the jets in the 2nd quarter scoring 21-points and never looking back to a 63-7 victory over Southern. Adam Burns, sports reporter for the Joplin Globe says that this loss was indicative of Southern’s season. They start out strong but just can’t keep up with better MIAA competition.
We also look ahead to Southern hosting Northeastern State at Fred G. Hughes stadium in Joplin. Kick off is Saturday at 5 PM. A win for the Riverhawks would snap a 9-game losing streak. A victory for the Lions would put a halt to their 20-game losing streak dating back to October 1, 2016 and their victory over Nebraska-Kearney on the road.
